Designing Artificial Coral Reefs

A decrease in biodiversity in our waters is affecting the worldwide coastal population. Because we live in a deeply connected world, the global population is affected. The shoreline is our first line of defense.
The designs of artificial reefs shown below are developed through understanding coral reef habitats and translating that knowledge through computational practices. They explore novice models for designing artificial coral reefs, testing an early-stage methodology for creating human-made coral reef habitats.
Observations:
Learning about coral morphology, plasticity, and biotic interactions led to the tests below. These tests focus on:
1. Developing an everchanging, scalable, dynamic form.
2. Using Photogrammetry to translate existing natural morphologies through a digital medium.
3. Designing multiple layers to encourage multi-species interactions.
